Hi all,
I am planning a move to Chicago towards the middle of this year. I was wondering whether anyone could tell me how good transport is in the city ? Are buses and trains affordable or is it better to have a drive ?
Also which areas are the best served by public transport ? Are there any suburbs I should avoid.

The bus network is huge and covers a vast area. The metro or 'L' is a little smaller, but often more efficient and quick for getting around the city.
When in comes to fares, Chicago's public transport fees are really reasonable in comparison to other US cities. Single journeys start at USD 2.25 but if you plan on commuting daily there is monthly travel pass for USD 100.

Chicago is a big city and each suburb is unique. Where you choose to live will depend on the demographic group you fall into as well as your budget and personal preferences. Generally though most expats choose to live in the northern parts of the city such as Lake View and Lincoln Park.
The South of city has got a higher crime rate and rents in areas such as Hyde Park are much cheaper, therefore more popular with students.
