Weather in Chile

Stretching along almost the full length of South America, Chile is home to a diverse climate, difficult to sum up in a broad description. 

Generally, during the spring months of September to November, travellers to Chile can experience a beautiful array of flowers, ideal for those looking for the best time to visit this South American gem. Chile's beautiful beaches and world-renowned vineyards are prime destinations to visit during this time of year, offering unforgettable experiences for Chile travel enthusiasts.

From March to May, the changing colours in the leaves offer perfect postcard pictures. During winter, from June to August, many Chileans hit the ski slopes, which is often an easy excursion to plan as many ski resorts are only a short bus trip away from major cities.

Climatic conditions vary quite a bit from region to region. The northern part of Chile is home to the beautiful Atacama Desert, one of the driest places in the world, where it's warm all year round. The central regions around Santiago have a Mediterranean climate, characterised by long, hot summers and cool, wet winters. Glaciers and alpine tundras are found in the east and southeast of the country. Travelling from north to south in Chile, there is an increase in precipitation, with the southern regions having quite a wet climate and generally cooler temperatures than those in northern areas.
