Hi Liz,

It is possible to submit your work permit application at the Ministry of Labour and Social Security in Istanbul.

However, it is important to be aware that the process of obtaining the permit can be bureaucratic and tedious. Also depending on which field you are going into - you might find that there are some restrictions on the type of jobs foreigners are allowed to do in Turkey.

In Turkey, the employer and employee will both be required to submit applications simultaneously, so just make sure you have all your paperwork in order and don't simply rely on your employer to take care of the whole process.

For more information, I suggest having a look at the Expat Arrivals Work Permits for Turkey page. It gives you a detailed overview of the process for getting a work permit in Turkey and also a list of necessary documentation.

If a company is serious about employing you they must obtain a work permit for you. A number of companies say they will obtain your work permit which without one you are not allowed to work. However, this some do not do with your working illegally. Do not under any circumstances try and work using a tourist visa. If found doing so you will most likely be deported.
