Tax on property income whilst in Canada

Expert Info

Submitted by stibbles on
Destination: Canada

Hi,

I have two investment properties in the United Kingdom and work now takes me to Canada for at least three years.  I presume I will pretty soon be classed as a Canadian resident for tax purposes.

Can anyone tell me how the income from these paid in rent will be treated?  What rates of tax etc?

Also, what if I sold the properties?  Would the equity I have in these properties be taxed as income?

Dear British expats in Rome!

Can anyone recommend a good primary school please? It would be for our daughter, aged 9 (currently in P4 in Edinburgh).

Looking for a school where Italian is taught as a 2nd language and ideally good % of Italian children, so she can pick up the language.

Any suggestions and comments (negative or positive) welcome!

Thanks

Hello, my name is Paul and I am in the beginning/planning phases of starting a unique souvenir business in Florence. This would entail me moving to Florence, finding the proper storefront, obtaining the necessary permits, etc. I had read some varying things about moving to and starting a business in Italy as an American. Any real life input, feedback, or opinions would be very appreciated. Many thanks, Paul

What extras should I expect from a salary package in Abu Dhabi?

Expert Info

Submitted by lorettakw on
Destination: Abu Dhabi

Hello, my husband is in the interview process of getting a job in Abu Dhabi. We are a family of 5 (couple with three young kids) from Australia. The offer looks like it'll be 50,000 Dirhams a month, which is obviously great, but nothing has been offered about housing, schooling, etc. The only extras mentioned were his flight over (not ours) and basic health insurance for him.

Hello,

I am a Canadian citizen and have family living in Montreal, but personally have been living abroad in Kuwait for 20 years, I am planning on moving back but am not sure how to transfer my son (who was born in Canada and is a Canadian citizen entering his 12th Senior year) to a high-school here. He attended a Arabic/English bilingual school in Kuwait. Any information would be appreciated.

Destination: Johannesburg

Hello everybody,

I am living in Bryanston-Rivonia area. I decided to bring my 9 years old son (turning 10 end of October) to Johannesburg. We are Turkish and he had his first 4 grade in Turkey, in Turkish along with a very basic English education.

Is there any course (recommendation) for improving his English or orientation ?

Which grade he needs to start? Is there any test or exam or consultation for finding his grade or level?

And which schools can you recommend, preferably in Bryanston-Sandton-Rivonia area,

Thanks in Advance

Changing visa status while in South Korea

Expert Info

Submitted by LH on
Destination: South Korea

Hi

I am moving to South-Korea next year to study. The university I want to go to (Hanguk university) doesn't allow me to stay more than a week after I finished my semester (end of June). I would like to stay in South-Korea for the summer to explore the country. I was wondering if it would be possible to change my student visa to a tourist visa while being there, without having to leave the country.

Thank you in advance for your reply.

Looking for English schools in Antwerp

Expert Info

Submitted by Rmax1974 on
Destination: Belgium

Whilst exploring the option of relocating from UK to Belgium, a major consideration is the schooling for my 6 year old (English speaking only). Wanting to live closer to work (Antwerp), I contacted three primary schools in surrounding areas, but am yet to receive a reply. As Antwerp and surrounding areas seem to be predominantly Flemish speaking, I fear my potential relocation choice may be a no go - from a state schooling point of view.
